Dialysis machine disinfection is a critical procedure in hemodialysis care to prevent infection, remove biofilm, and ensure safe operation. It targets microbial growth and endotoxin contamination in both the blood and dialysate circuits.

Disinfection Methods:
Heat Disinfection – Uses hot water (typically 80–90°C) to destroy microorganisms.

Chemical Disinfection – Uses agents such as peracetic acid, sodium hypochlorite, or citric acid to break down biofilm and remove mineral deposits.

Heat-Chemical Combination – Alternates thermal and chemical cycles for enhanced safety.

Procedure:
Disconnect machine from the patient.

Circulate disinfectant or hot water through all fluid pathways.

Rinse thoroughly with treated water until chemical residues are at safe levels.

Perform endotoxin and microbial testing if required.

Safety Guidelines:
Follow manufacturer’s protocol and national guidelines.

Use PPE (gloves, goggles).

Always verify disinfection results before patient use.
